FAQ's

Is there a birthday cutoff for registering?
Yes. We ask that children attending preschool be three years of age (or more) by or before December 31st of the registration year. If your child is turning four and will be attending Kindergarten the following fall, you may register them if their birthday falls on or before December 31st of the registration year. The birthday cutoff for registering for Kindergarten within Prairie Spirit School Division is December 31st of the registration year.

Does my child need to be potty trained to attend preschool?
Not at all. We recognize that all children reach this milestone at different ages and at their own pace. If your child is not potty trained, or is in the process of training, please be sure to keep a change of clothing in a labelled, large Ziploc bag in your child's backpack in the event of an accident. Please also be advised the teacher will not change diapers/pull-ups, and if a change is necessary will call the parent/caregiver during class time.

What are the class times?
Students registered for twice per week will attend Tuesday & Thursday mornings or afternoons; once per week students attend Wednesday mornings or afternoons. Morning classes run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; afternoon classes run from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Please plan to arrive no earlier than five minutes before the start of class. Parents/caregivers may arrive five minutes before the end of class to pick up their child - please remain in the entrance until class is dismissed.

What should we send to preschool?
Each preschool day, please send the following with your child:
  • nut-free snack
  • non-slip, non-marking shoes
  • an extra change of clothes (if still potty training, or if accidents are an issue)
  • all in a backpack large enough to hold it all (toddler-sized backpacks and backpacks with wheels are discouraged).
*Please label all containers, clothes, etc. with your child's name.

What do I do if my child is sick and/or unable to attend preschool? Are there make-up days for missed classes?
If your child has a fever, diarrhea, an inexplicable rash, pink eye (not yet treated), or is vomiting, please refrain from sending your child to preschool until they are feeling better. You may call, text, or email Mrs. Mitchell to let her know your child will be missing class that day. There are no make-up days for classes missed due to student illness, vacation, or other absences.

What do I do if I am unable to make my parent-helper day?
If you are unable to make your parent helper day, please make arrangements with another parent to switch days, or have someone attend in your place, and please let the teacher know who to expect in your place. It is the parent’s responsibility to make these arrangements. Your child’s sharing day will also change with your parent helper day.

Is preschool cancelled for inclement weather?
The preschool operates on the same policy as the school division - preschool classes will not be cancelled due to bad weather. However, in the unlikely event of extreme weather conditions (ie: severe flooding or extreme blizzard conditions), the preschool teacher MAY cancel classes and a make-up day(s) will be offered. The preschool teacher will email parents and post a notice on our Facebook page.
